Repeater pipettes excel with sticky (viscous) liquids 

A repeater pipette operates on the principle of positive displacement. 

The piston in the pipette contacts the liquid, so the viscosity doesn’t impact the liquid’s aspiration. 

Glycerol has high dynamic viscosity, so it flows very slowly. Aspirating glycerol quickly with an air displacement pipette creates air bubbles. Air bubbles, as you know, are bad. Liquid also sticks ot the interior walls of the pipette in an air displacement pipette. 

Surfactants cause the same trouble without a repeater pipette. 

In a positive displacement pipette, the aspiration strength is constant.

How to use a repeater pipette 

All automatic pipettes follow the same general guidelines.

• Attach your pipette tip.
• Adjust the volume.
• Prime the pipette (aspirate and dispense the liquid a few times to remove air bubbles).
• Aspirate the liquid (put the pipette tip in, press the button on your repeater pipette, watch the pipette fill).
• Dispense (the repeater pipette will dispense the exact volume you set).
• When your vessels are full, eject the tip. 
• Done!

Different repeater pipettes have slightly different design elements. So your volume adjustment might be digital, or with a dial, or something else. If it’s manual, you’ll have to aspirate the liquid manually.

Automatic pipette terms you should know!

Before you invest - know exactly what you’re getting.

Multi-dispensing:​

Allows the repeater pipette to dispense a preset volume of liquid multiple times from a single aspiration. It's useful for repeating the same volume dispensing without the need to refill the pipette after each dispense.

Auto-dispensing:

Refers to the automatic distribution of liquid at a set volume and rate. The user can program the repeater pipette to dispense a specific volume of liquid, and the device will do so automatically, which is efficient for repetitive tasks.

Sequential dispensing:

Allows the pipettor to dispense different programmed volumes of liquid in a sequence. This feature is particularly useful for complex procedures requiring different volumes of liquids to be dispensed in a specific order.

Multi-aspiration:

Allows the repeater pipette to aspirate different volumes of liquids from different containers in a single operation. It's useful for protocols that require combining multiple liquid components in specific ratios.

Favorites, programmable, etc:

This is a convenience feature in some repeater pipettes where users can save their most commonly used settings (like volume, speed, and dispensing patterns) for quick access. It allows for faster setup and consistency in repeated procedures.
